This talk will present our research on 3D Range gated imaging and 3D transparent object detection with laser pulse. Range gated technique is a laser ranging approach which measures the round trip time between emitted laser pulse and the pulse echo reflected off the target. This approach has been applied in surveillance, military and oceanic etc. In recent years, range gated approach has also become more cost effective due to the development in lasers, sensors, signal processing and computer technology. Transparent object detection is a challenge due to the complex nature of light interacting with it. The characteristics of light such as absorption, transmission, reflection, and refraction in transparent objects makes its acquisition challenging. We introduce a fixed multi-viewpoint approach to ascertain the shape of transparent objects that obviates the rotation or movement of the object while imaging. Also, a simple and cost-effective experimental setup is presented that employs two single-pixel detectors and a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) for imaging transparent objects by projecting binary patterns. By triangulating the light path from the object, surface shape is recovered neither considering the reflections nor the number of refractions. It can, therefore, handle transparent objects with a relatively complex shape with the unknown refractive index.

王欣,莫纳什大学马来西亚分校工程学院副教授。2007年博士毕业于南洋理工大学。国际电子工程师协会(IEEE)高级会员。英国机械工程师协会(IMechE)特许工程师。主要研究方向包括激光雷达、机器视觉与深度学习技术、光电检测技术等。主持国家及国际研发计划项目4项。发表论文被SCI收录30余篇.
